A Look at Different Types of Air Compressors

Air compressors are mechanical devices that increase the pressure of the air or a liquid by reducing its volume. A typical air compressor in the market is a specialized kind of pressure compressor. There are various types of compressors in the market, such as at Swift Equipment, and all of them vary in their functions and features. They also differ in sizes, and the way they operate.

Jet air compressors are generally used in industries where there is need to depressurize the atmosphere quickly. These kinds of compressors work on the principle of pistons, driven by an electric motor that rotates the piston at high speed. The rotary force of the piston is utilized to pump air in and out of the lines or tanks of the machine. The other kinds of compressors used in industries are positive displacement compressors, scroll compressors, rotary screw compressors and reciprocating compressors.

Rotary screw air compressors are considered to be one of the most commonly used machines today. They have several applications in the market and can easily be found. They are especially helpful in manufacturing industries that require high pressure and high volume production of items. In manufacturing, these compressors are widely used in air brake applications, automotive air compressors, oil pump compressors, diesel engine compressors, oil tank liners, gas turbine condenser compressors, etc. They come in two forms, namely, the rotary screw compressor and the screw vane air compressors.

The other type of compressors are the reciprocating air compressors, which use a shaft and piston combination. This combination yields a high pressure, but it has low efficiency and low volume of compressed air. They work well in high pressure applications like oil hand pumps. In case of applications where the pressure is low, the screw vacuum pump is used. They function well in applications where there is low or moderate pressure.

The screw Quincy compressor and screw vane air compressors are two types of reciprocating air compressors. A number of industries utilize screw compressors and Quincy compressors for power supply. A Quincy compressor includes three pistons and is capable of holding pressure up to 25 PSI. It is mainly used for power generation in power plants and ship engines. On the other hand, the screw piston compressor uses a shaft and single or dual cylinder and compresses the air in the cylinders with the help of a screw pump.

Another form of compressors is the liquid-fueled pump. They use an in-built motor that compresses air in a closed loop at a low pressure. The air is stored in a storage tank and when the motor starts; the compressed air is released in a fine mist into the air lines. This is used in conjunction with a system that provides refrigerant gas in case of an emergency. There are also mobile air compressors that can be attached to vehicles and lifts. Mobile air compressors are very useful in mobile situations like construction sites. See more at https://swiftequipment.com/diesel-air-compressors.html.
